On the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, the North Star crew was at it again! This year they made 40 pies for the Amherst Survival Center’s Thanksgiving Meal. The “Bake-a-Thon” was our very first fundraiser in 1996, and remains a valued moment in our annual calendar. In the past, we asked teens to solicit donations as part of their participation. More recently, we have shifted to having the teens focus on the baking process itself, and to asking for contributions through part of the Giving Tuesday campaign.
North Star has strong relationships with several local non-profit organizations, and we enjoy spreading the joy among our friends! Program Director Loran Saito takes a group to volunteer at the Amherst Survival Center every Friday morning throughout the year, and she has deepened our connections with the people there beyond the Bake-a-Thon.
